Relapses in multiple sclerosis are not necessarily permanent: MS is an autoimmune disease with symptoms that may come and go over time. Relapses occur in most people living with MS. While it may indicate the presence of a new symptom or the worsening of an old one, relapses may correct themselves over a few weeks or months. If the relapse symptoms last more than six months, the problem may last indefinitely.
